On 31.3.2019 Annual convocation of Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh held at Vidyapati Bhawan today in Patna. The university also felicitated eminent Kathak artiste and Guru for her lifetime contributions in the realm of classical dance.

First professional Kathak artiste in Bihar from an amateur family



Eminent Kathak artiste Dr Rama Das will be felicitated by the Pracheen Kala Kendra, music and dance university from Chandigarh at its annual convocation at Vidyapati Bhawan in Patna on March 31, 2019. Sri Milan Das, Painter and former Vice-chairman, Bihar Lalit Kala Akademy along with Sri Sukanta Sarkar, eminent journalist from Kokalata will also be felicitated on this occasion.

Daughter of Late C. L. Das, the renowned Sarod exponent and music scholar of India Dr. Rama Das has a large number of accolades to her credit.  She's done research work in Kathak dance and has received doctorate from Magadh University.  Has been the first professional Kathak artiste in Bihar from an amateur family, a pathbreaking step taken in the quips.

In her debut programme Dr. Rama Das had shared stage with Sonal Mansingh and Yamini Krishnamurthy. The event was centenary celebration of Paluskar ji held in Patna in the 1970s. 

A daughter of Mithila region in Bihar, she specialises in poet Vidyapati's poetry and has been the first Kathak exponent to perform on variety of his verses. Enacted a role in Bihar govt's film production, Vidyapati. Incorporated Hindi poets in Bhaav Nritya in Kathak. 

She is the first Kathak exponent to choreograph on Nirala's epic Ram Ki Shakti Puja. First Kathak exponent to present Lord Buddha's journey of life and women in his life. 

As a Guru, she has been grooming students for over 35 years and has disciples in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh,  Chhattisgarh,  Bihar and Jharkhand. She runs 'Kalatrayee' in Patna.
