Bihari residents probably of Karnataka origin meet in Maharashtra
It may look fascinating but is a truth that lakhs of people residing in Bihar since last 1200 years or so still feel pride of their Karnataka origin. And the striking fact is that there is still elements of similarities in their culture. Even today, they marry on the basis of a written document called 'parichaya' which is nothing but a list of names of the villages their forefathers from paternal and maternal side came from. Though the names of villages from the comparatively recent forefathers in case of all people may be in thousands in number, the first two names of villages, one from paternal and and another from maternal side called 'moola' are invariably only among very a few say eight villages. And the erudite of Mithila culture believe that theses 'moola' like Madhupur, Narangwali, Aahil etc. are the names of some extant villages located in some far-flung area of Karnataka province. And so they carry 'Karna' as the name of their clan.
Also, there are a significant number of members of this group who do not borrow this idea of Karnataka origin and so Bhairab Lal Das, a well-known scholar of Mithila culture and Indian history is doing study on this matter. People are waiting with bated breath for his conclusive remark on this debated issue.
The General body meeting was held on 16.12.2018 under the banner of Karna-goshthi, Mumbai and the venue was Everest World complex, Ghorbandar road, Distt.- Thane. Severasl points of cultural upliftment were discussed in the assembly and it was noticeable that a large number of women also participated in the event of the group generally believed to be highly orthodox. A necessity to nurture the ethos of cooperation and contribution was felt to emerge as a strong group who could extend their significant voluntary services for the development of the society and the nation as a whole.
C.B. Das was elected the new president of the group in place of the outgoing Suman Chandra Das. Mr. Choudhary alias Daman Ji was again elected as the treasurer for the second term and Diwakar Lal Das got the responsibility of the secretary on the expiry of the term of Ashok Kr. Pintu. A puja was also performed before the GBM. Uchit Narayan Das conducted the proceedings of the meeting.
